Student Health and Wellness

Our first priority is the health and wellness of all students.

Athletic Trainer

Abby Starnes is the athletic trainer at Wy’East Academy. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and her Master of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia. As an athletic trainer, she provides both emergency care and rehabilitation services for student-athletes at Wy’East. During her graduate studies, Abby gained hands-on experience working with the University of Virginia’s football, track and field, and softball programs. She also completed clinical rotations with the Miller School of Albemarle and Montana State University’s football program. In addition to her collegiate experience, she has served as a mountain bike trail medic. Outside of work, Abby is an avid mountain biker and skier.

Abby collaborates closely with Dr. William Moreau, Medical Officer of Neurosport Spine and Concussion Center. Dr. Moreau brings extensive experience from his tenure with the U.S. Olympic Committee, where he served in multiple leadership roles including Vice President of Sports Medicine, Team USA Medical Director for the 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games, and Chief Medical Officer for two additional Olympic Games. A leading clinician and researcher in the field of concussions, Dr. Moreau and his team at Neurosport specialize in the treatment of sports injuries, concussions, and spinal conditions.

Wy’East Academy is proud to partner with Dr. Bill Moreau, DC, DACBSP, FACSM and his team at Nuerosport Spine and Concussion. They are “highly specialized chiropractors with board certifications in sports medicine, dedicated to delivering evidence-based care for individuals dealing with a range of conditions including sports injuries, spinal issues, concussions, and dysautonomia.”

Medical Coordinators

Our Medical Coordinators help monitor student-athletes' health on a regular basis. Medical Coordinators are in charge of giving out all daily medications at the prescribed dose and time and are responsible for ensuring the athletes have the supplements they need. Medical Coordinators are able to schedule Urgent Care visits, primary care and specialist appointments, and dentist appointments for athletes who are sick, injured, or need routine care. When athletes are sick, Medical Coordinators are in charge of checking on them throughout the day and providing over-the-counter medication they need. In emergency situations, Medical Coordinators are the first on the scene to assess and determine the best course of action.

Bad Ash Alpha Fitness

Ashley Reese, a parent of a current student and local fitness trainer, offers personalized training sessions on campus each evening.

Ashley writes: “As a fellow Wy’East Academy parent, I’m thrilled to bring my passion for fitness and performance to our amazing students! With my background as a NASM-certified fitness trainer and competitive athlete, I’m here to help our kids build strength, not just in body, but in confidence and resilience too.

My training sessions are all about helping young athletes gain a real edge. We’ll dial in on sport-specific skills and the fundamentals—think balance, coordination, strength, power, core conditioning, mobility, and mental toughness. It’s a full-spectrum approach designed to boost performance and keep injuries at bay.

Expect each session to be focused, high-energy, and, most importantly, FUN!”
