Trip Recap: NYC, NY
Our skate team finished the year with a trip to New York City, New York. One of the highlights was grabbing bagels for breakfast every morning. Our team getting the same thing (cheddar cheese sausage on a french toast bagel) at a different bagel shop each morning to find the best.
Of course, skating was the goal and purpose of the trip. Student athlete Marcelo tells us about his favorite spots in the city:
“My favorite skate spot was Tompkins Square Park. The DIY obstacles and the basketball court were super fun. It reminded me of skating in front of my house and then going over to a court nearby. There were always people there just cruising and hanging out with friends. If I lived in New York, I’d probably be there all the time just because of the vibe.
Another spot I liked was K Bridge Park. I got two clips there, one with my GoPro where I did a line that ended in a 50-50. I used that camera the whole trip for everything taking videos of skating, food, and just random clips for B-roll. One of the coolest things there was this pink boat that I also did a 50-50 on, which was really fun and different.
I also can’t not mention the Brooklyn Banks. It’s such a legendary skate spot and has influenced skateboarding a lot. I’m glad it reopened last May so I could actually skate it. I managed to 50-50 the handrail near the end, but not the main big one. I tried, but I couldn’t fully commit that day. Still, I didn’t let it get to me I just moved on and kept skating.”
We are proud of our students’ growth and can’t wait to be back!
