Our History
Wy’East Mountain Academy (formerly Windells Academy) is an evolution of our passion for people, place, and sport. In 2009, world champion snowboarder and Windells Camp namesake, Tim Windell, and Olympic-medalist coach, Mike Hanley, started the Academy as way to further improve the lives of young people by combining college-prep academics with elite-level training programs for skateboarders, skiers, and snowboarders. Notable alumni include Olympic and X Games medalists Nick Goepper and Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, along with many other influential professional skiers, snowboarders, and skateboarders.
As of 2019, we changed our name to Wy’East Mountain Academy to usher in a new era at the Academy. While elite-level training for skiers, snowboarders, and skateboarders will remain at our core, we evolved as an institution seeking to develop our students as whole people, not just as athletes. The name change signified an expansion of our mission with renewed focus in the classroom and student life while investing heavily in our campus.
In 2020, Wy’East Mountain Academy became a registered 501c3 non-profit educational organization.
