Freeski OVERVIEW

Freeski

Wy’East Mountain Academy’s Ski Program is a year-round training experience for anyone passionate about skiing. Regardless of skill level, we offer an all-encompassing athletic program that pushes progression and results while fostering teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. Our program prepares athletes for competition at the highest level and provides them with a unique perspective on the inner workings of the ski industry. With a long history of success in freeski disciplines, Wy’East has helped produce Olympians, X Games medalists, Dew Tour medalists, national team members, and professional skiers.

Goal Oriented

Our ski students work closely with the coaching staff to understand the individual goals set for each student by shaping a rolling four-year plan with key performance indicators (KPI’s). Whether the goal is to be an elite competitor, industry influencer, media professional or just someone who is passionate about skiing, the ski KPI’s are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Based (SMART Goals), which are transparent to parents, students, coaches, life coaches, and academic staff.  It is this entire 360 support system that helps ensure student growth and success at all stages.

Industry Outreach

Over the decades, and through our connection with Windells Ski Camp, we’ve built countless lasting relationships within the skiing community. We leverage these connections to give our students a firsthand look at life inside the ski industry. This includes industry visits to companies like Line Skis and meeting professional skiers who’ve transitioned into roles such as product designers, sales professionals, marketers, and more. Through our industry outreach, we provide students with unique experiences and opportunities to build their own relationships with brands they resonate with.

Fall Semester

The fall semester is crucial for preparing our athletes for competition season and the year ahead. We focus on strength and conditioning, flexibility, mobility, and building a strong foundation. Using our on-campus trampolines, dry slope jib line, and airbags, we conduct dryland training in a safe environment. These facilities allow athletes to experiment with new tricks as they prepare for the upcoming competition season.

Winter Semester

The winter semester is 'GO' time for the ski program. Lifts are spinning, competitions are in full swing, and we’re reaping the rewards of the hard work put in during the fall semester. Students will have the opportunity to travel across the country and around the world for events in their specific disciplines and training camps. In April, the entire team heads to Copper for USASA Nationals. As the semester winds down and other resorts begin to close, Mt. Hood is just hitting its stride. We wrap up the season at home with slushy park laps and long, smooth groomers on the Mile.

SUMMER Semester

While the rest of North America takes a break and lifts shut down for the summer, Mt. Hood is in full swing. Timberline offers a world-class training opportunity with its Freestyle Training Center (F.T.C.) during the summer months. Our student-athletes have the chance to train on snow five days a week while getting ahead on their academics for the following year. With no contests on the calendar, our sole focus is progression, learning new tricks, and preparing for the upcoming season.

Mammoth is one of the premier destinations for park skiing, especially in the spring when you can showcase your skills in one of the best-maintained parks in the U.S. We take full advantage of everything Mammoth has to offer, from top-to-bottom laps to refine technique to exploring all the diverse parks across the mountain.
